New Service: Get Birth Certificate Locally, Even if Born in Another N.C. County

The Mecklenburg County Vital Records Office, in coordination with the
Mecklenburg County Register of Deeds, will participate in the new
Statewide Birth Certificate Issuance Program starting Friday, Oct. 1,
2010.

The program enables Mecklenburg County residents to obtain a copy of a
certified birth certificate for individuals born anywhere in the state
of North Carolina from 1972 to the present. The Mecklenburg County
Register of Deeds is the legally authorized agent of the State
Registrar to issue copies of certificates from the Statewide Birth
Database maintained by the State Vital Records Office in Raleigh, NC.

"We are pleased to be able to offer this new service to Mecklenburg
County residents, and it will allow people in our county to access
their birth certificates in a more efficient and cost effective way,"
said Register of Deeds David Granberry.

Cost for the service will be $24 to research the certificate in the
North Carolina state registry and includes one copy of the
certificate. Additional certificates from the same search will be $15
each. For residents born in Mecklenburg County the cost for a
certificate remains $10 each.

County residents who would like to take advantage of this service are
encouraged to go to the Mecklenburg County Vital Records Office
located at 700 East Stonewall Street, Suite 320, in Charlotte.
Operating hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. For
more information residents can call 704-336-2819.
