County Sponsors Free Paper Shredding Nov. 12

In the old days, throwing out a few boxes of long-canceled checks and
other personal documents was quite simple: You dumped it all in the
trash, sent it to the curb, and forgot about it. But that was before
identity theft became commonplace.

In the new era where protecting personal information and the
environment is equally important, there is a much better solution to
getting rid of personal information, and during Mecklenburg County
Solid Waste's Paper Shredding Event this weekend, you can do it safely
and for free.

On Sat., Nov. 12, all four Mecklenburg County Full Service Recycling
Centers will be shredding household documents for no charge from 8
a.m. until noon to help celebrate America Recycles Day. Since 1997,
communities across the country have come together every Nov. 15 to
celebrate America Recycles Day, the only nationally recognized day
dedicated to the promotion of recycling in the United States.

Document destruction specialists Shred-it, Caraustar and Pro-Shred
will be on hand Saturday -- along with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg and
Huntersville police departments -- to ensure that all documents are
disposed of safely and securely. The first 25 residents to bring items
to each recycling center will receive recycling gift bags.
Not sure what to bring? Visit or call E. Nadine
Ford at 704.201.2201 for detailed information about what you can bring
for disposal.
