April 16 from 8:00 am – Noon at Central Piedmont Community College's
(CPCC) Central Campus, Overcash Building (1206 Elizabeth Avenue). The
Symposium is a free event hosted by the City of Charlotte.
The theme of the Symposium this year is 'Connecting Community' and
will feature a new level of community engagement through short
neighborhood-led presentations, designed to inspire other
neighborhoods to get involved in a neighborhood project of their own.
Presentations will be themed around creating a safe environment,
involving youth, promoting sustainability and energy efficiency, and
engaging community partners. Neighborhoods will also learn about
funding resources for their next neighborhood project.
During the second half of the program, attendees will be grouped by
geographic region to learn about events happening in their area such
as new greenway construction, new roads/sidewalks, new fire stations,
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools volunteer opportunities, civic projects
and business activities.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided at the Symposium event. Pre-
registration is required. Go to http://nbs.charlottenc.gov or call
704-336-2061 to register or for more information.
CPCC's annual celebration of the arts – Sensoria, and the Charlotte
Clean and Green Earth Day Festival will be taking place in partnership
with, and simultaneous to, the Neighborhood Symposium, making it a
full day with many fun and exciting activities for the whole family.
Festival exhibits, classes and activities will take place from 10:00
am – 4:00 pm on Elizabeth Avenue.
