Special Programming on GOV Channel Focuses On Hugo

GOV Channel to Feature Exclusive Look
at Hurricane Hugo: Then & Now

WHAT: "Remembering Hugo: Emergency Preparedness Then and
Now," an in-depth program featuring City
officials and
employees from 1989 and 2009.

The first half of the special includes
interviews with employees
who worked to continue City services to
citizens and later
lobbied for aid from state and federal
officials. The second part
of the show focuses on what changes have
been implemented to
improve emergency response preparedness
since the night of
September 22, 1989.

WHY: To commemorate the 20th anniversary of
Hurricane Hugo,
which ravaged the Charlotte area and tested

causing more than $1billion of damage
statewide.
