High Tech Ways to Save at the Supermarket

Have you seen the Coupon Mom, Stephanie Nelson, on the Today Show or
Oprah or numerous other shows buying over $100 of groceries for less
than $5 at checkout? CouponMom.com, her free website, continues to
grow as shoppers learn to use web technology to save up to $6000 a
year at the grocery store. CouponMom.com is the largest grocery
savings website of its kind with over 2.4 million members, up from
200,000 in early 2008.

Consumers are taking advantage of the recession coupon craze, as over
$800 million more dollars were saved with coupons in 2009 than in
2008, according to a Valassis marketing survey. Grocery coupon
redemption increased by 27% in 2009 and continues to increase in 2010.

"Consumers are focusing more on planning their trips to the grocery
store to save money," said Nelson, "Being able to go to the web to
find the best grocery deals at their stores, print coupons, load
electronic coupons on their store cards, and even use their cell phone
to access their shopping list helps save money without taking a lot of
time."

Printable grocery coupons are the fastest-growing source of coupons as
busy shoppers seek "on-demand" savings. In 2009, internet
distribution of coupons increased by 92% and consumer redemption of
these coupons is up over 360%. CouponMom.com members alone printed
over $40 million worth of free grocery coupons in 2009. "We will most
certainly see an increase in the number of printable coupons available
in 2010," said Nelson.

The website helps shoppers save by teaching "Strategic Shopping."
CouponMom.com offers free membership and a tutorial, and the "Grocery
Deals by State" section makes saving simple by listing the best
grocery deals at thousands of supermarkets across the country. These
lists combine sale prices with store promotions and coupons, helping
any shopper achieve dramatic savings.

Shoppers can even use their cell phone in the store to find grocery
deals and have coupons electronically loaded on their store loyalty
card. CouponMom.com has a new mobile version to help shoppers create
their shopping lists on the go.

Nelson's new book, The Coupon Mom's Guide to Cutting Your Grocery
Bills in Half,
(Published by Avery, a member of Penguin Group, USA), on the New York
Times Bestseller List for four weeks is more proof that consumers are
hungry for new ways to save. It is a relevant and timely resource for
families nationwide.

"Saving money doesn't have to be complicated," says Nelson. "We
outline my Strategic Shopping Method and show consumers how easy it is
to save at every type of store, in every department within the grocery
store, and for every type of shopper."

Nelson realizes that not everyone who wants to save has the time to
clip coupons before they shop. Her book tailors practical advice to
different types of shoppers, and enables even the busiest consumers
to save up to 30% by shopping strategically.

A new wave of couponing is taking the nation by storm, and Stephanie
Nelson knows all the tricks of the trade. To learn more about new
couponing trends and for an online tutorials, go to www.couponmom.com.

folk singer-songwriter, proving to his listeners that he can fluently
wear both hats.

May 23—Angie Medlin with Tom Williams & Steve Pelland
Angie Medlin with Tom Williams
Working in the radio industry gave Angie exposure to different types
and styles of music. In late 1996 during an after-hours event, she
was coaxed into singing at a local club. No one, not even Angie,
expected what that night might bring. She then taught herself to play
guitar and slowly began to write lyrics that would one day become
songs, all along continuing to practice her vocal work. By 2003, she
was ready to step into the spotlight as the lead vocalist for Shade, a
funk-rock original band based in Charlotte. In late 2007, Angie
created Sid Hippo Management, a small publishing company that is her
home base for her work as a songwriter and performer. By 2008, Sid
Hippo obtained ASCAP membership and manages the publishing and
performing rights to 20 original songs. In October 2008, Angie joined
forces with Williams to create the acoustic duo "Ang." Since then,
the two have played more than 60 shows and multiple benefit concerts.

CMS recycling logo and slogan winners announced

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools celebrated the 40th anniversary of Earth
Day on Thursday, April 22, with a variety of activities held across
the district. One of the activities included unveiling the district's
new recycling logo at Hawthorne High School.

CMS students were invited to create a new recycling logo and slogan
for the district's recycling program. The district received 52 entries
and eight judges from area businesses, the county and district helped
select the winning artwork. The winning slogan was created by Harding
University High School student Simone McDuffie and the logo was
created by Hawthorne High School student Kyleigh Varvel. The new
artwork will be used on all promotional material starting next school
year, including on the recycling carts and bins. The winning logo and
runner-up entries are attached.

"It is so exciting to be part of the winning artwork," Kyleigh said.
"I used an apple because I always liked drawing them when I was a kid."

CMS and Mecklenburg County's Solid Waste and Recycling Department
created the art contest to promote the county's conversion to single-
stream recycling where households, businesses and schools will be able
to mix paper, cardboard, plastic, aluminum cans and glass into one
recycling cart beginning on July 1.

"Recycling is very important even in school and everybody should do
it," said Simone, who created the winning slogan 'Be Cool! Recycle In
School.'

Republic Waste Services sponsored the contest and awarded $1,000 to
both schools during the Earth Day ceremony.

Jaylan Mobley, an eighth-grade student from John Taylor Williams
Middle School, was named first-runner up, and an entry from Cornelius
Elementary was named second runner-up. The Cornelius entry was created
by the following students: Teddy Coyer, Lauren Hooks, Kristian Madsen,
Christopher Pennella, Roman Uglehus and Maggie Wagner. All schools
received a certificated framed in recycled bicycle tires and goodie
bags that included notebooks, Frisbee, key chains that were made out
of recycled material.

Jennifer Roberts, chair of the Board of County
Commissioners, spoke about the single-stream conversion at the
ceremony and presented the awards during the ceremony.

"The single-stream conversion is going to save us a lot of money
because we will only have to pick up recycling every other week," she
said. "The new recycling carts will be bigger so more items can be
recycled leading to an increase in participation. This will prevent
more items from going to our landfills."

Realtors(r) Care Day Announces Green Initiative

The second-annual Realtors® Care Day, an all-day, home-repair
initiative sponsored by the Charlotte Regional Realtor® Association's
Housing Opportunity Foundation on April 23, will pave the road toward
a brighter future for 30 deserving homeowners as it literally paves
the road for drivers in Union County.

Boggs Paving, Inc., a contractor headquartered in Monroe, N.C., is
supporting the project and its 650 area Realtor®volunteers by
utilizing a recycling method that will be implemented for the first
time in North Carolina. The process – post-consumer reclaimed asphalt
shingles (PRAS) – removes nails and debris from discarded shingles
before grinding them into particles that are blended back into
asphalt. The result is a recycled "green" product for paving and
resurfacing roads; one that limits the use of virgin petroleum and
aggregates processed from the earth, reducing both consumer expense
and the use of environmentally costly landfill space.

Boggs Paving and other companies across the state have been recycling
scrap from asphalt-shingle manufacturers (pre-consumer) for years, but
this marks the first time a company has received a permit from the
N.C. Department of Energy and Natural Resources (NCDENR) to undertake
the post-consumer "ROOFS to ROADS" process at the asphalt-
manufacturing facility. Plans call for Boggs to retrieve and recycle
shingles from eight homes that have roof repair or replacement needs.
The reclaimed shingles from Realtors® Care Day homes will be used in
late summer 2010 to resurface several roads in Union and Anson counties.

"We are honored to play a small role in helping area Realtors® improve
housing conditions for those who need a helping hand to ensure a safer
environment," says Drew Boggs, president of Boggs Paving. "This
opportunity allows us to serve our neighbors while spotlighting an
emerging green technology that will preserve our natural resources."

Joe Rempson, 2010 Realtors® Care Day co-chair, says, "We are extremely
grateful for Boggs' support, which will eliminate thousands of dollars
in dumping fees but, more important, will provide the means to
conserve through recycling. This fulfills a goal we set for ourselves
last year – to enhance our community-wide project by incorporating
sustainable, environmentally sensitive elements.

About Realtors® Care Day - April 23, 2010
Realtors® Care Day was initiated by the Housing Opportunity Foundation
in 2009 as an extension of its commitment to affordable, fair and safe
housing, and to provide an opportunity for Realtors® to give back to
the communities in which they live. This year's event is held during
National Fair Housing Month and National Volunteer Week.

Armed with paint, toolboxes, building supplies and a spirit of
volunteerism, some 650 Realtors® will help 30 homeowners across
Mecklenburg and Iredell counties with necessary but often unaffordable
exterior home repairs and/or adaptive safety modifications for the
elderly and disabled.

Last year's inaugural event had a community-wide impact of more than
$200,000 and the Realtors® Care Day committee is poised to build upon
this success. In recognition of this initiative, last month the
National Association of Realtors® and the U.S. Conference of Mayors
designated Charlotte as an Ambassador City, which includes a $5,000
grant in support of the project.

Seven regional housing nonprofits are collaborating with the committee
leaders to identify eligible homeowners, including City of Charlotte's
Neighborhood and Business Services Department, Habitat for Humanity of
Charlotte, Habitat for Humanity of Iredell County, Habitat for
Humanity of Matthews, Our Towns Habitat for Humanity, Love INC and the
Davidson Housing Coalition – HAMMERS Program. For more information on
Realtors® Care Day 2010, visit the project's Web site at www.RealtorsCareDay.com
